I’m pleased to announce a new product I’m working on to help journalists and other creators maintain control over their work. It’s called Intaglio.

Intaglio is a new digital signature technology to validate the authenticity of written content. This is especially important as generative AI becomes more widespread. Creators need a reliable way to protect their work.

How It Works

Intaglio uses cryptographic hashing to create a unique digital fingerprint for each piece of content. These signatures are securely stored in Intaglio’s global database. Setting up a signature is simple: create a profile and confirm your email. You can then upload files or paste URLs to apply your digital signature. Supported formats include .DOC, .DOCX, and .PDF.

Features

  • AI Access Preferences: Users can control who can access their content.
  • Notifications: Alerts for any suspected AI infringement.
  • Engagement Tracking: Tools to analyze and track how your content is being used.

Commitment to Creators

“Creativity is humanity’s gift,” says co-founder Alexandra Matthiesen. “Writing is essential for expressing perspectives and inspiring shared understanding. With the rise of generative AI, creators’ work is at risk of being appropriated by AI models. It must be accessibly and reliably protected. We are committed to offering Intaglio at no cost to writers.”

Revenue Model

Intaglio will generate revenue by charging AI developers for access to its model training database and licensing publications to distribute Intaglio-authenticated content. This approach supports contributors and promotes ethical AI development.

Founders and Team

The project was co-founded by:

  • John Biggs: Author and journalist at the New York Times and TechCrunch.
  • Alexandra Matthiesen, product developer and designer.
  • James Donovan: Journalist and developer.

The technical coordination is led by Viktor Shpak from VisibleMagic.com.
